Promoting understanding and dialogue in agriculture and nature conservation ¶
Discussions between the agricultural sector and cantonal nature conservation bodies (seemingly) do not always take place on an equal footing. There may be a disparity on both sides. To find constructive solutions, it helps to gain a deeper mutual understanding of each other’s positions – supported by fundamental dialogue skills.
In a pilot project run by the Translational Centre Biodiversity Conservation and the cantons of St Gallen and Zurich, a one-day workshop will be organised to create space for fostering such mutual understanding and enhancing dialogue skills.
On 18 September 2026, staff from cantonal nature conservation agencies who do not have an agronomic background or much experience of day-to-day farming will meet with interested local farmers at a farm in the municipality of Eschenbach, St. Gallen. Participants will gain an insight into the day-to-day work of farmers and the cantonal nature conservation agencies.
The key topics will cover the following areas:
- Farm tour: the farm, machinery, costs, time/administration, BFF and biodiversity in general.
- Input from the cantons of St. Gallen and Zurich: accounts of day-to-day work, as well as the objectives and remit of the cantonal nature conservation agencies.
- Dialogue exercises led by Agridea
If the feedback is positive, we hope to roll out the programme to other parts of Switzerland.
